Flying Start for Northampton Athletic Club in the Lower Age Group YDL
Saturday saw the first ever league match for newly formed Northampton Athletic Club. The Moulton College based Club was competing in the Youth Development League Lower Age Competition in Derby and came away with an emphatic victory against 7 rival clubs.
There were outstanding performances across the team, who battled against horrendous weather conditions including 55 mph winds and persistent drizzle.
For the U15 girls there was an excellent track performance from Shanice Ighalo who took second place in the 200m (28.45) before winning the Long Jump with a leap of 4:33m. Lily Carlaw built on her excellent start to the season by dominating the Shot, where she is already UK number 1 and Discus competitions with throws of 12:57 and 33:46 respectively. There were wins in the B Events for Jessica Kempton in the 300m (47.60), Charlotte Creak in the Discus (22:45), Kae Crisp, Long Jump (4:01) and Xcena Pasqualin in the Shot (7:22).
There were also excellent performances from the U13 girls, led by a clean sweep in the sprint events with Ava Thomas winning the 150m (21.96) and also taking the B 75m (11.15) and Shot (5:56). Fellow sprinter Savannah Morgan took the 75m A race (11.35) and the 150m B race (22.08) before winning the Long Jump (4.03). There were also strong performances from Georgia Roseblade who came 2nd in both the Shot (6:66) and Javelin (19.73). In competitive middle distance races there was a brace of second places from Ella Darby 800m (2:52.57) and Olivia Willison 1200m (4:32.30). In the B events there were several winners including Lara Turner in the 1200m (4:38.05) and Javelin (10:13), with Ella Darby adding the B Long Jump (3:91). At the end of the day Thomas, Willison, Darby and Morgan combined to win the 4 x 100m Relay.
There were equally outstanding performances from the U15 boys including Ollie Savage who won the 300m (41.06) and took second place in the Long Jump (4:83) and the 200m (25.81) and ended the day anchoring the 4 x 300m Relay to victory along with Oliver Cherrington, Luke Turner and Ollie Buchan. Buchan also took the B 800m (2:33.69). In the field there were a host of personal best performances. Joshua Tutt won the Shot with an outstanding throw (12:95) supported by Will Clarke who won the B (10:65) having already taken the Discus and Hammer A events (22:45 and 23:48). There was also a big personal best from Tom Lambeth coming second in the Javelin (27:39).
The U13 boys endured a difficult afternoon with strong competition. In the 1500m Nathan Lamb made a bold bid to take victory missing out by less than a tenth of a second (5:16.93) with team mate Lewis Robson close behind and winning the B race (5:21.88). Other B event victories included Jasper Smith 100m (15.65), Malachy Collins 800m (2:45.45), William Drage, Long Jump (3.55) and Kai Scott, Shot (5.70). Smith also finished second in the Shot (5:82). There were also promising performances from Zac Pasqualin who was third in two A events; 75m hurdles (16.42) and Long Jump (3.56). In the final event Smith, Pasqualin and Drage were joined by Lewis Nutt to win the 4 x 100m Relay (1.00).
The next round will see the team return to Derby on Saturday 18th May as League leaders.
