Great Wall of China Challenge provides base for PB’s for senior middle distance athletes.

The older middle distance squad knew that the COVID lockdown meant any track season this year was going to be both different and shorter than usual ‘if’ or ‘when’ it happened and were determined to be fit and ready if they got the chance to compete at all this summer.

Not content with initially running a virtual Lands End to John O’Groats (1407km) and following this with a virtual run across Australia (4000km), the squad (+ families) decided that a true challenge would be to cover the length of The Great Wall of China (21 000km).

After a few months of individual hard work training in lockdown and then in socially distanced training groups, not only did the squad ‘demolish’ the 21000km of The Great Wall Of China, but they were ready to compete as soon as lockdown was eased and competition allowed.

An amazing achievement! Well done team!
