Northampton Athletic Club – Member Update
June 2020 – Part 2
Further to the briefing we sent out last week, we have now agreed with Moulton College for a partial return to the track following the guidelines issued by England Athletics. Due to the need for strict social distancing, the college will allow 5 training groups per session. Each group will consist of 1 coach and 5 athletes. This will allow the 5 groups to train on a specific area of the track. We have reached agreement with the college that we can have 3 training sessions per week:
Monday 6pm – 8pm
Wednesday 6pm – 8pm
Sunday 8.45am -10.45am
The college has been insistent on the athletes involved being more experienced and wherever possible the groups to be event specific. The first session will take place on Monday 15th June and will involve 2 sprints groups, 1 middle distance and 2 throws groups. At this time, we are still not able to conduct jumps training although this is currently under review. For the initial period the clubhouse will remain closed, and toilet facilities will be available in the management centre, adjacent to the track.
To enable this to happen, we have produced a comprehensive risk assessment and have appointed Covid Officers to ensure that we are fully compliant during sessions. We have also produced guidelines for coaches and athletes to ensure everyone understands what is expected of them. The individual coaches involved in the sessions will have responsibility for inviting the 5 athletes to make up their group. Our objective at this time is to be as inclusive as possible and factor in those athletes who are likely to be competing in championships before the end of the current season.
Stage 3 of the lockdown easing for athletics is expected to be announced in the next couple of weeks. We are hoping that this will allow more usage of the facilities, however, until this in announced we are not able to plan for the involvement of more groups. We are in regular contact with the facilities team at the college and England Athletics and will inform you of any developments as soon as we can.
Thank you all for your continued support and patience.
