Northampton Athletic Club Shot Putters Take National Indoor Titles
Northampton Athletic Club saw its first two national champions when Chris Dyrmishi and Lily Carlaw took the National Indoor U17 Men and U15 Girls Shot put titles respectively at the England Athletics Age Group Championships in Sheffield on the Weekend of 23rd and 24th February.
On the 23rd, Lily lead the competition from start to finish with 6 throws over 12m. In the 5th round she broke the championship record and in the final round she went on to break the national indoor record with a throw of 13.78m.
On the 24th, Chris Dyrmishi took part in a very competitive U17 shot put competition and fought hard to take the title. After leading for the first few rounds he lost the lead in the 4th round before retaking it immediately on his next throw. A great effort from Chris to deal with the pressure on a national stage in his first national indoor championships.
As well as our national champions, two second claim athletes who train with our shot put squad, also took national shot medals. Alfie Williams pulled a PB out of the bag to take the bronze medal alongside Chris in the U17 mens competition. Lewis Byng dominated the U20 mens competition and came away with a gold medal as well as selection to represent England in the Welsh Indoor International competition.
