Nuneaton U20/Senior Test Event (2nd August 2020)
This was probably the most unusual 800m either of the Northampton club athletes will ever run, but if you have to run 800m in lanes, then that’s what you have to do! The race format might have been unusual but the results were outstanding…running 800m in lanes didn’t seem to worry senior lady Eden Bates who followed up a good indoor season by smashing her outdoor 800m PB from 2013 by 6.7 seconds, finishing in 2m31.2s.
Not to be outdone, Lauren Cunild (U23) running in the next heat, again in lanes, also broke her own PB which had stood since 2017, with a great time of 2min25.3s. This was a fantastic moment for Lauren, who has been on the comeback trail for nearly two years as she recovered from tendon injuries which have hindered her progress whilst at university in the USA…..and just to prove that she has fully recovered, a couple of hours later Lauren also broke her own 400m PB by 3.4s – a record that had stood since 2016 – setting a new mark of 64.59s.
