Sam Lickerish Shines at England U20 Combined Events Championships
Northampton AC’s own Sam Lickerish produced a brilliant all‑round display at the England U20 Combined Events Championships, finishing fourth with a superb new personal best of 4716 points. It was a performance that showcased both his athletic versatility and his competitive maturity across the two‑day heptathlon.
From the opening event, Sam demonstrated consistency and composure. He opened with a sharp 7.33 in the 60 metres, the third‑fastest time among the field, setting a strong early tone. He followed this with a 6.53m long jump (5th place) and a solid 11.65m shot put (5th again), keeping himself firmly in the top pack through the morning session.
One of Sam’s standout moments came in the high jump, where he cleared 1.84m, placing third in the event and gaining valuable points as athletes approached the midway stage. His technical execution here was a highlight and a clear sign of the progress he has made.
Day two began with the 60m hurdles, and Sam continued to perform reliably, clocking 8.63—the fifth‑fastest time in the field. In the pole vault, he cleared 3.60m to place fourth, keeping his PB score well within reach as the competition headed into the decisive final event.
The heptathlon concluded with the gruelling 1000m, and Sam dug deep to run 3:00.58, finishing 8th but securing the points he needed to complete the best combined‑events score of his career.
With his final total of 4716 points, Sam not only earned 4th place nationally, but also achieved a significant personal best, demonstrating the strength of his winter training and his growing potential in combined events.
This performance marks a major milestone in Sam’s development and reflects his dedication, resilience, and impressive adaptability across all seven disciplines.
